Verbena is another one of those perfect plants for the beginning or weekend gardener. It requires little work, and will reward you with variations of pink, purple and red blossoms from spring into fall. Although technically a perennial, it is planted as an annual in cold weather climates. It is easy to plant from seeds, but they take so long to germinate, that many people prefer to buy them as established plants. It works well in hanging baskets, rock gardens, and border areas.
Verbena requires full sun and soil that drains well. Transfer the plants into your garden at the same depth as their dirt enclosure. Water them well. Thereafter, don't water again until they are dry. Removing the dead flowers will allow the plant to put its energy into producing more flowers.
